Our Mission

Calvin Hill Day Care Center and the Kitty Lustman-Findling Kindergarten aim to serve as a support for families, working in partnership with parents to help meet the emotional, social, physical, language and intellectual needs of their children.

Non-Discrimination Policy

Calvin Hill and the Kitty Lustman-Findling Kindergarten are model early childhood educational programs. The Center is an inclusive community and no applicant for admission or employment, enrolled family, or staff member will be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, sex, ethnic or national origin, language, religion or religious creed, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, veteran status, national origin, ancestry, genetic information (including family medical history), pregnancy, present or past history of disability or because of any other status protected by federal or Connecticut law.

Teachers counter potential bias and discrimination by treating all children with equal respect and consideration, planning activities that build positive self-esteem and the valuing of differences, intervening when children tease or reject others, providing models and visual images that counter stereotypical limitations, and avoiding stereotypes in language references.

Teachers closely monitor the children’s interactions and play and do not allow children to be scapegoated, targeted, teased or otherwise humiliated. Teachers never permit children to exclude one another based on race, gender, disability or other like factors. It is understood that children must learn the skills of sharing, cooperating, negotiation and empathy in a safe and nurturing environment.
